There’s nothing like the promise of Autumn to get us thinking about delicious food and travel getaways, so our Travel Wishlist this week includes our top picks of gourmet food tours around the globe!
Original Food Tours (Paris, France)
One of the Millers team was lucky enough to experience TWO of the incredible tours on offer by this amazing little company based out of Paris, France. The Marché d’Aligre Walking Tour gives you the opportunity to experience how local Parisians select and purchase their fresh produce, including cheese (so much cheese!), meat and delicious deli options such as the traditional foie gras and pâté. It’s truly a magical experience hearing the vendors calling over the top of each other to entice you to buy sweet clementines, glossy aubergines and fresh, earthy mushrooms.
The Marais Food Tour is definitely a fantastic alternative to your standard restaurant dinner; visit gourmet shops selling artisanal icecream and traditional macarons from Provence, taste award-winning chocolate and world-famous falafel, before ending the evening with great conversation, the traditional escargot and frog legs, paired with a glass (or two!) of excellent wine.
Original Food Tours also has tours available in London, Bangkok, Sicily, Naples and Bath- a great excuse to do more travel and eat more food!
Food Loose Tours (Perth, Australia)
Food Loose Tours offers a number of tour options, with the idea to get you eating off the beaten track. Think gastropubs with a focus on local produce, incredible coffee, artisanal baked goods from hole-in-the-wall cafes in the backstreets of the CBD, and authentic Asian dishes from unexpected venues in the city’s hugely diverse Asian community.
Perth’s culinary scene has been creating a stir in the past few years, and with tours designed to introduce you to bars, bistros and restaurants you may not have experienced (along with a few cheeky dessert pit-stops along the way), your ultimate Perth foodie adventure desires can be fulfilled.
Penang Food Tour Channel Malaysia (Penang, Malaysia)
Penang is a small island in Malaysia, and is truly a cultural melting pot; with an amazing mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Peranakan (or Baba Nyonya/ Straits Chinese, a blend of Chinese and Malay) populations, the food scene in Penang is not to be missed.
Penang Food Tour Channel offers small group tours with a private escort for a walking food tour of the bustling side streets and the opportunity to experience Malaysia’s culinary delicacies and unique blend of cultures. Street food is king in Penang, and once you’ve had authentic satay from a street hawker, you’ll be hooked!
Gourmania Food Tours (Hobart, Australia)
Tasmania has a long and illustrious historical relationship with food; luscious landscapes of rolling green pastures and pristine ocean means a plethora of locally farmed produce makes its way to your plate when you visit this little jewel in the south.
Get a dose of Hobart’s history as you visit home-grown food heroes or the famous Salamanca Markets; Gourmania Food Tours promise to deliver an intimate introduction to Tasmania’s produce, including artisanal cheeses, cold-climate wines, freshly harvested fruit & veg, and the delicious seafood for which the state is known (think Atlantic Salmon, wild abalone and briny fresh oysters!).
Foods of New York Tours (New York City, USA)
There are so many tours on offer with this amazing company, you’d be hard-pressed to decide which one to book. Our advice? Book them all.
Nothing gives you a greater understanding of a city or country than by indulging in its food. Foods of New York Tours document the influence of generations of immigrants; walk through the various neighbourhoods of New York City and try hand-made Italian pasta and cannoli, Polish kielbasa sausage or experience the hustle of Chinatown as you snack on a traditional Chinese pastry. While tour guides lead you to historical landmarks and points of interest, you’ll feel immersed in the city’s rich and diverse cultural history, whilst tasting some of NYC’s most delicious treats.
